In short
For dating platforms, Proof of Actor is designed to provide evidence that a real, present human is behind a profile and its conversations, with identity details kept private from other members and AI-assisted messaging made visible where the platform requires it.
The question
Is a real person behind this profile, and are they the one in the conversation?
Context
Trust between strangers
Profile verification badges typically establish something once, at a single moment. Romance scams, catfishing and AI-generated personas exploit everything that happens afterwards: conversations run by scripts, by AI, or by someone other than the verified person.
Members want safety without handing their identity documents to strangers or to an opaque process. Platforms want fewer fake profiles without adding friction that drives genuine people away.
Proof of Actor is designed to separate the claims: a member can be a verified human, present in the conversation, with identity undisclosed to other members.
Where trust breaks today
- Profiles created at scale with synthetic photos
- Conversations operated by scripts or AI personas
- Verified accounts later operated by someone else
- Video calls with manipulated or synthetic video
What Proof of Actor is designed to establish
Trust layers this context needs
Each context asks for a different slice of the trust stack. These are the layers that matter here.
Personhood
A real human created the profile.
Presence
That human is present in conversations and calls.
Actor continuity
The same person continues to operate the account.
AI participation
AI-written messaging is visible where the platform's rules require it.
Policy
Typical policy
Proof of Actor supplies the evidence. Your organisation sets and discloses the policy.
// Proposed API - illustrative only

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Will other members see my identity?
No. The design principle is to prove what matters without revealing what doesn't. Other members could see that a profile belongs to a verified, present human without seeing name, date of birth or documents.
Is a one-time photo verification enough?
It establishes something at one moment. Proof of Actor is designed to add continuity, so a verified profile that is later operated by someone else, or by an AI persona, does not keep the same trust indefinitely.
Does this ban AI writing help?
Not by default. Proof of Actor makes AI participation visible; each platform decides what its members are allowed or expected to use.
